Hamilton Construction is collaborating with the Northwest College of Construction (NWCC), the State of Oregon, Constructing Hope, and the Youth Employment Institute to attract young people to construction through a pre-apprenticeship program. The groups are working together as one way of addressing anticipated labor shortages that are being driven by an improving economy, more construction jobs and the army of Baby Boomers beginning to retire as their 401K's and pensions begin to stabilize.

According to Brad Sullivan, Hamilton Vice President, most of the new construction jobs will require technical training that can be provided by apprenticeships programs. It's a way to get a good paying career without a huge college debt, Sullivan says. He adds that the best way to get young people excited about construction is to show them how it's done. That's why Hamilton is inviting students to its I-84 Sandy River Bridge project as part of the Northwest College of Construction's NWCC Summer Construction Camp.
